Marsa Alam is an Egyptian tourist city located in the Red Sea Governorate. It is considered one of the newly established cities, as its development began in 1995 through the investments of the Kuwaiti Al-Kharafi Group, which adopted the establishment of the city with all its facilities, resorts, and infrastructure, making Marsa Alam one of the most attractive places in Egypt for tourism. The city is located on an area of 38,433 square kilometers, 274 km south of Hurghada, and 134 km south of El Quseir, and its height above sea level ranges around 60 metres. It is inhabited by about 11,497 residents, most of whom are from the Ababda and Basharia tribes, and is followed by three villages: Bernice, Abu Al-Hassan Al-Shazly, and Abu Ghosoun. The city is considered a global center for fishing, diving, and cruises. It also has an international airport, a yacht marina, and a conference center, in addition to luxury resorts and hotels. Its desert is active in gold mining in the Sukari mine.
